RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Organizers of a 12th week of protests outside the North Carolina General Assembly plan to focus on opposition to a new voter identification bill.
The North Carolina chapter of the NAACP has scheduled another mass rally for Monday afternoon behind the Legislative Building. The rally will be followed by protests and likely mass arrests of people opposed to the voter identification bill and other legislation that has been adopted by the Republican-controlled General Assembly.
During the first 11 protests, more than 800 people have been arrested. The NAACP and its supporters oppose the GOP's economic, social, education and voting policies.
Republicans control the North Carolina legislature and governor's mansion for the first time in more than a century.
